What is Neurology?

Neurology is called the branch of medicine that deals with the structure, functioning, and problems of the nervous system. The word Neurology is of Greek origin (from Greek: νεῦρον, neuron, "nerve" and λογία, logia, "science"). The nervous system is a complex, intricate system that regulates and coordinates the activities of the body. As a consequence of this complexity, hundreds of different neurological conditions exist. Predominant among these are Alzheimer's and various types of dementia, stroke, Parkinson's, autism, epilepsy, migraine, etc. Nervous system (NS)which is the focus of neuroscience as a science, is key to keeping the body vital and functioning. It all depends on the correct sending of the messages that our neurons distribute between the brain, the spinal cord and the rest of the body.

The science of Neuroscience studies the NS and the two main parts into which it is divided:

- Central Nervous System (CNS) - is made up of the brain and spinal cord.
