Laser resurfacing, also called laser resurfacing, is a procedure in which an ablative CO2 laser is used to effectively rejuvenate and smooth the skin. The laser resurfacing method relies entirely on the body's ability to repair and renew itself. Through the controlled removal of the dead or damaged surface layer of the skin, its "revitalization" is achieved and it regains its former radiance and fresh youthful appearance, is tightened and stretched. With the help of laser peeling, signs of photoaging, acne scars, fine lines and medium-deep wrinkles are removed, and elasticity is restored.
The idea is that through the use of a special laser, micro-damages are formed in fixed places that "wake up" the epidermis (the upper layer of the skin) and it begins to replace the removed dead layer of skin with a completely new and vital one. In addition, the laser also acts thermally deep in the dermis (middle layer) stimulating it to start an intense synthesis of collagen and elastin, restoring flexibility. The innovation that we have come to rely on at SanaMedic is called a fractional laser resurfacing-from the type of laser used, a CO2 fraxel laser. Standard CO2 lasers irradiate and "damage" the entire surface of the skin in the treated area, traumatizing it more and causing a significant increase in recovery time.
In contrast, during a laser peel, the Fraxel CO2 laser performs controlled "damage" only at specific sites in the skin, i.e. treats the relevant site "staggered", alternating healthy and unaffected tissue with treated one. In this way, all "damaged" areas are surrounded by healthy tissue, which very quickly begins to replace the affected areas with new and vibrant skin tissue without flaws.
Before laser resurfacing, your skin should be prepared for the procedure. For people with a darker complexion or skin color - bleaching creams are used for a period of several weeks. And in the presence of cold sores and viral infections, wait for them to pass. The idea is to minimize the likelihood of side effects - pigmentation, redness, etc. During the laser peel itself, the dermatologist applies a numbing cream to the treated area, which dulls sensitivity and removes discomfort. The skin should also be exfoliated and cleansed. During the laser treatment, there is a slight burning or prickling sensation from time to time, and thanks to the cream the discomfort is minimal.
Depending on the treated area, the procedure lasts between 25 and 40 min. Recovery takes between 7 and 14 days, depending on the problem treated and the depth of penetration. A few days after laser resurfacing, it is normal for the skin to be red and more sensitive. Some patients experience mild swelling and brownish crusts that subside after a week. Taking care of your skin during this period is key to the outcome.
A really good effect after laser peeling can be expected after a course of 3-4 treatments, and improvement can be seen after the 1st treatment, but not so convincing. It should also be borne in mind that it takes about 2 months after the last manipulation for the overall result of the procedure to become apparent. This is the time needed for the body to synthesize new collagen to replace the old.
The result after laser peeling is a visible reduction of pigmentation and even complexion. Fine lines and wrinkles disappear or are significantly straightened. The skin becomes softer and smoother to the touch. Acne scars and bumps are cleared up. The skin is more vibrant and supple, its tired look is gone. As the effect continues to improve over the next 4 to 6 months.
